IBM’s new research lab is in Brazil

It is true that IBM has been in Brazil for 93 years. But now,  the American company launches its first lab in 12 years in the country. The mission of the Brazilian IBM lab is to develop technology systems around natural resource development –  namely petroleum and gas –  and large-scale events such as the Olympics. IBM has nive other research labs around the world. This will be the first in South America.

According to the Wall Street Journal, this move  underscores the growing importance of emerging markets and the globalization of innovation.

Google in BH

in 2005, Google acquired a Brazilian company called Akwan, founded by Brazilian researschers.  In 2008, the Brazilian unit controlled ORKUT ‘s global operations.
