CNN Fareed Zakaria recommends Emerging Markets Business Book

My previous views as an American on an American media source (PBS Newshour) appear to have caused some interesting comments, which I appreciate. So, here is another perhaps provocative view: My favorite Sunday morning journalist is Fareed Zakaria. His network, CNN, is not a public television show by any means. Zakaria studied at Harvard with Sam Huntington, who I also had for an undergraduate course on Democratization. Huntington is one of the most respected academics in his field, though he recently passed away. I like Zakaria because his views are more insightful than most of the other Sunday shows, maybe because of his academic background. With regard to the PBS newshour, I like that show because of the lead journalist, Jim Lehrer, who is both a former Marine Officer, and a novelist. He (and his former partner, Robert McNeil) set a standard for objective journalism that I respect. At least those are my impressions. On Zakaria’s show, there was also some mention of Brazil by one of the panel members, and I may circle back and post that when the transcript is posted.

Fareed Zakaria, my favorite Sunday Morning journalist, recommends the following business book on emerging markets, here

The theme of this business book appears to be similar to The Economist’s recent, excellent Special Report on Frugal Innovation in Emerging Markets.

Zakaria writes about the book, Winning in Emerging Markets, the following:

The authors make the case that the lack of business infrastructure and absence of rule of law in some emerging markets is not a hindrance, but actually a major opportunity.

Fareed says this is an exciting look at the business world.

Zakaria also wrote the book, The Post-American World, which is about the “Rise of the Rest” not “The Fall of the West” and is a must-read about the BRICs, and emerging markets in general.
